A global chemical and consumers goods company with a manufacturing facility in St. Louis, Mo., sought a solution to reduce the repairs on gear pumps in its plant. Abrasive solutions — water and sodium bicarbonate — were wearing down the gear pumps used in the company’s manufacturing process. The cost of the repairs required as a result of the damage prompted the manufacturer to find a better option for its industrial needs.
The company sought help from IPEG, which offers a wide selection of pumps from leading manufacturers. IPEG suggested a SEEPEX progressive cavity pump as a solution. IPEG recognized that this pump’s ability to stand up to highly viscous materials, as well as solids and corrosive liquids, made the pump a perfect fit for the client.
“This change in technology is expected to save us in downtime, labor costs, and parts costs for our buffer system. It is a better option for handling our abrasive product solution,” said the client’s spokesperson.
The client’s new pump has remained operational with no issues for nearly two months. Because the new pump is better suited to endure harsh elements, the customer expects to save more than $15,000 a year in repair costs.
